Brendan Courtney takes his design talents outside

An outdoor furniture range for EZ Living Interiors shows Brendan Courtney flexing his al fresco designer skills.

Celebrity culture now exists in every aspect of our lives, from skincare and beauty brands to basic garments, bedding, furniture, and accessories.

Presenter and designer Brendan Courtney was recently announced as the man stepping into the late Hugh Wallace’s shoes on RTE’s TV show, The Great House Revival, and has also fronted several seasons of Keys to  My Life on RTE One.

Brendan Courtney takes his design talents outside

Brendan is following Hugh’s lead by partnering with EZ Living Interiors on a range of furniture.

Hugh had collaborated with the company on his Sofa workshop and Heritage collections.

This is Courtney’s first foray into the realm of furniture design.

Simply called Brendan Courtney Home & Garden, it features two sets in acacia wood for al fresco living.

Stained a mid-toffee colour, the dining set includes a table and six dining chairs, complete with well-upholstered back and seat cushions, designed for comfort and long lazy lunches.

He’s launching the range this morning on the roof terrace of his Dublin 8 apartment building, which has views across the city.

The dining chair has arms that allow you to rest your elbows while enjoying a long lunch.

The base has a paired rear foot, reminiscent of the Pigreco by mid-century Italian design couple Afra and Tobia Scarpa.

The functionalist is such that you could use these indoors and move outdoors on the days that the sun shines, as was the custom in Ireland in the eras before patios, conservatories, balconies, and terraces allowed us to enjoy outdoor living, albeit oftentimes with a heater, like many of our European counterparts.

The Tripoli lounge set comprises a neat two-seat sofa that extends to 200 cm long and is 78 cm deep, while the matching armchair has a width of 70cm.

The coffee table is perfectly pitched for wine o’clock - the table is set at 36cm high, the optimum height to set down your balloon or martini glass, to minimise spillages.

Priced at €2,199, it is currently available at a special introductory offer of €1,999.

The six-seat dining set is similarly priced. Both are accessorised with tableware pieces from the EZ Living Interiors shops and are only available in-store.

They include the coastal-themed napkins with lobster and seahorse motifs, €12, and nautical striped cushions, about €50, along with amber-coloured cocktail glasses, €9 each, and a deep purple vase for flowers, €46.
