Doggone gorgeous, a tree base that heralds new thinking

Roll on the holidays. Kiss-Mas is a mobile tree base for your Christmas tree that has a purpose beyond the festive season.

A new collaboration between two leading design houses offers festive season fresh thinking. It's about spreading good looks and joy this Christmas time.

Kiss-Mas is a takeover of the Swiss company USM’s London flagship store by Buchanan Studio.

And it will open your eyes to new ways to work the modernist company’s classics into your home.

USM is a Swiss modular furniture company whose heritage goes back to 1885, as an ironmongery and metal-working company in Münsingen, Switzerland, but made a name for itself in the 1960s with a new modernist range that graced corporate offices and homes across the globe.

It is beloved by architects and aesthetes everywhere. In Ireland, the brand is available through Minima.

Their work has graced the pages of international glossy magazines such as Wallpaper, HTSI, Architectural Digest, Vogue and Elle Decoration.

Part of their success is the sense of playfulness they bring to homes.

They wash everything in colour and deliver homes that look like real people live in them, not the flat, karate-chop scatter cushion-perfection that is often offered up as the solution to those who can afford to employ the services of a design professional.

Tellingly, the company's signature colour is pink.

The companies have joined forces to create Tessellate, a collection of pieces that reinterprets USN’s Haller system, amping up the fun factor and making it look and feel more sharable.

This includes kiss-shaped furniture and accessories - using an x as shorthand for kiss.

The couple understand the social sphere. Four years ago, Bucanan Studio’s chunky Studio Chair went viral and established the brand as leaders in their field.

The statement furniture and accessories include trays and multi-use pots and planters, available in the Swiss house's signature Mondrian-inspired colours.

The large version is on wheels and might just be the perfect base for your Christmas tree. It costs about €530, ex delivery.

Those wanting to house a smaller, table-top tree should investigate the smaller planter, about €439. Come January 6th you can put a plant into either.

It means you don't have to find storage space for the tree base until next Christmas.

Select furniture comes in Buchanan pink mixed with white. It includes stools, about €1,938, and benches, about €4,291, that look like slices of Battenberg cake.

The x-shaped Kiss table costs about €2,473, while the similarly shaped Kiss tray costs about €1,417.

For cocktail hour or gin o’clock wheel in its side cart, about €995, or serve nibbles and accoutrements from the open cube side table, about €1,508.
