6 seductive, sleep-inducing ideas to help you bed down for the night

With just four weeks until the clocks go back and darkness falls, it’s time to consider your sleeping arrangements, from what you sleep on to the sheets you slip between.

Sleep quality is important, but so too is the quality of the bedding that takes you to the land of nod.

A calm and decluttered space will also help empty the mind.

Make a slumber spot statement

Start by investing in a bed that you can be proud of.

Neptune’s Wardly is a Shaker-inspired painted finish four-poster frame that will add drama.

The timber form cuts a striking silhouette, with posts that gently taper toward the top.

Pictured in Saddle, a new shade launched by the brand, it is one of 33 colours that you can select, so you can tailor the bed frame to coordinate with your room.

The paint costs €65 for 2.5 litres of emulsion.

Sleep serenely under soft green sets

Bedding that feels textured to the touch feels more nest-like. plump for crisp green and off white stripes, in 200-thread count, 100 per cent cotton.

A king-size duvet set costs €125. Scatter feather-filled cushions, 50cm by 40cm viscose/linen mix, €45 each.

Adagio, right, is a 200-thread count, 100 per cent cotton, seersucker duvet set, €145, with a Lyra natural cotton bedspread, €109.

The windowpane check 45cm square, in natural and green, costs €45 each. All from Meadows & Byrne.

A finishing touch to frame the bed

A headboard frames the look of a bed and sets the tone for the room.

This Vivienne design, which is upholstered in a merino wool woven fabric, Ditsy, in mouse, €169 per metre, ex delivery, is from Knightsbridge-based Tori Murphy.

Dream-catching luxury

Luxury-lovers may already have climbed between the very fine Frette sheets at some of the world’s best hotels.

The Italian textile company has become a byword for high-end bedding.

Create a sense of a private palazzo at home with its Doppio Ajour king-size duvet cover, €695, fitted sheet, €275, pillowcases, €165 per pair, and rectangular bedspread, €1,295.

All are available at Bottom Drawer at Brown Thomas.

Touch-me texture

Not everyone wants to sleep between plain white sheets. Print-fans will be drawn to Jacquard, a duvet set weave that is tactile to the touch and brings warmth to the space.

Made of 100 per cent cotton, the king-size costs €109.

Layer the look with a cotton-rich quilted throw, €115, both from Marks & Spencer.

Cool, calm and collected

According to colour experts, there is a marked shift happening in Irish homes.

We are looking for shades that make a home feel more sanctuary-like.

Dulux Heritage colour consultant, Jane Witter, explains the shift as “a definite move towards colours that evoke feelings of calm and balance”.

For more ideas, visit the Dulux Heritage Interior Design Hub at the ptsb Ideal Home Show, from Friday to Sunday, October 17th to 19th.
