Unlike sightings of celebrities in the neighbourhood, the chance to buy into Dalkey for this price is a rare thing - and in this case you’ll have to bring your own furniture.
Dalkey has priced most mere mortals out. The period houses and clifftop villas on Vico Road and Sorrento Terrace sell for multiple millions, and even modest family homes on the side streets usually cost more than only the best-heeled can manage.
So a two-bedroom property on Castle Street, the village’s main street, with an asking price of €595,000, is worth a second look for those bent on the Dalkey lifestyle.

Address: 8 Castle Mews, Castle Street, Dalkey, Co Dublin, A96 HD21
Asking price: €595,000
Agent: Sherry FitzGerald

Number 8 is one of a small group of townhouses behind a gates off the street in a scheme built around 20 years ago.
At 80sq m it is not overly spacious, but it is well-arranged over two floors.
The hall leads into an open-plan kitchen, living and dining room with windows on two sides, so it gets light for much of the day.
Double doors open onto a south-facing terrace with room for a table and chairs.
Upstairs are two double bedrooms. The main bedroom has an en suite shower room and a view towards Killiney Hill.

The second, at the front, has fitted wardrobes.
There is also a fully tiled family bathroom.
Residents share a paved communal terrace and an internal stairwell leads down to a gated car park, where the property has one designated space.
It needs furnishing and decorating throughout and of the brochure photographs have been ‘virtually staged’, embellished digitally to suggest how the rooms might look.
Mostly, though, the buyer is paying for the address.
Finnegan’s and The Queen’s, two of the best-known pubs in south Dublin, are a short walk from the gate, along with a good spread of restaurants, cafés and independent shops.
Coliemore Harbour is about ten minutes away on foot, with Dalkey Island just offshore.

Year-round sea swimmers head to the Vico bathing place and the rocks around Sorrento Point. There are Dalkey Hill and Killiney Hill close by.
David McWilliams’s Dalkey Book Festival fills the village annually with writers and readers, and events in pubs, churches and back gardens.
The name alone of its annual foodie celebration, The Dalkey Lobster Festival, makes clear the kind of social capital a local address bestows.
The neighbours, loosely defined, also form part the sociological attraction.

Bono has had a home locally for decades, Enya’s castle sits on the road towards Killiney, and Matt Damon spent the 2020 lockdown in the village, where his trips to the shops became a national talking point.
Dalkey DART station is a five-minute walk, the train reaching the city centre in about half an hour.
Number 9, a similar two-bed, sold for €540,000 in April 2023. Number 1 Castle Mews meanwhile, a recently refurbished three-bed duplex in the same scheme is also currently for sale with an asking price of €695,000.
Agents Sherry FitzGerald is seeking €595,000 for the townhouse.
