Wicker has evolved from laundry baskets to become a top trend

Woven textures have made a big comeback for 2026

There's something inherently homely about wicker. When most of us have at least a smattering of flat-packs around our homes, wicker harks back to the craft and patience needed for such a texture.

While wicker might not be hand-woven as often these days, it still brings in a classic feeling that warms up modern accessories or furniture.

Traditionally associated with crusty, painted furniture in seaside cottages, wicker has evolved far beyond boring laundry baskets.

In fact, these days it's a top trend for homes that want to feel lived in - in the best possible way.

The secret is in balancing wicker with other contrasting finishes - against cool painted walls or alongside crisp linen upholstery.

Baskets are an obvious start, and you should always have those in abundance. Tuck wicker baskets under a console table or at the foot of your bed for added practicality and style.

But another easy way to introduce wicker is through lighting. A pendant shade in natural cane will cast a flattering, dappled glow, softening overhead light and adding texture without overwhelming a room.

If a larger statement piece is more up your street, sideboards and other furniture pieces are now often made with wicker panels that are the perfect accompaniment to warm wood.

While wicker is definitely back in style now, it's a classic that's not likely to age your home any time soon.
