Timothee Chalamet’s star turn in the movie Marty Supreme has turned us all on to table tennis, with some designers investing in custom creations that command attention and have eye-watering prices.
While Chalamet’s character Marty Mauser may have frequented sports halls that were a little down at heel, the game and its equipment are luxing up their presence in high-end renovations and shooting for the stars.
A ping pong table is fast becoming the ultimate object of desire in luxury residences, with many designers opting for styles that do double duty as a dining table.
Some even offer other game options such as billiards.

Rally on an elegant Italian model
At the very top of the style food chain is this Egeo range by Studio Boccaccio 423 for Italian firm Vismara Design.
The designed table can be used indoors and outdoors and converts to a dining table by the simple removal of the net.

The ceramic top has a travertine look while the resin legs have a concrete finish.
Prices start from €21.200, and exclude the leather bag with four bats, balls, and a rain cover, which will be essential in an Irish climate.

Serve New York style across a leather net
It was through the purchase of her own brownstone in New York that Korean-born Jae Joo Designs first discovered her passion and talent for interior design.
In a recent Tribeca triplex project, a brutalist space which featured in various editions of Architectural Digest, she installed a ping pong cum dining table from LA and Big Apple-based BDDW.

Its solid hardwood top comes in a choice of cherry, walnut, or bleached maple natural oil finish, with contrasting inlay, a leather net, and bronze hardware and ball tray.
This custom piece will cost about €28,850, excluding delivery from the US.
The hand-made paddles, which hang by hidden magnets, cost about €418 extra each.

Rec room option that works outdoors
This multipurpose dining and games set is ideal for a rec room or family room that opens out to a patio.
Designed as an outdoor furniture set, it comes with two benches and has a dining table top that can also function as a table tennis surface.
When participants tire of it, the top slides off to reveal the pool table below.
The Hartman Crucible creation is reduced from €2,999 to €2,499 from Wicklow-based Outdoor Living.
It includes two table tennis bats, two balls, a net and fixtures, as well as two pool cues and a set of pool balls.

Go-to multi-disciplinary games room option
This pale oak finish games table offers dining, billards and ping pong all from the same piece of furniture.
The dining tabletop flips to transform into a ping pong table for after-dinner entertainment. When you get bored with the bats, you can switch to billiards.
This costs about €1,500, excluding delivery, from Amazon.

A portable model that also works for solo players
This portable design will suit every level of ping pong player and has an option to fold up for those who wish to practice or play solo.
A dependable piece of equipment, it is the design that most resembles the professional tables.
Set on wheels for ease of transportation, it can be folded to reduce its size. When the weather improves, you can transport outdoors.
It is currently reduced from about €613 to €449 at McSport Ireland and comes with a cover.
