Chrome with heart, mirror-polished stainless steel, and aluminium frames are metals of the moment.
Begone, brass and burnished metals. You have hogged the limelight too long.
The pendulum is now swinging back towards a cooler hue – silver.
Here are ways to bring it into your home.

Make a statement in the kitchen

When it comes to stainless steel kitchens, Italian brand Abimis is the gold standard.
Each piece is custom-engineered with a mirror finish to fit the space it will inhabit like a couture garment.
It’s an approach that softens the industrial look for residential living.
The price for the Ego kitchen, shown, starts from € 11.000 per linear meter, but this does not include appliances, installation, consultation, and transport from Italy.
The firm also sells the Atelier kitchen, which is slightly more modest in price.
It starts from € 6.000,00 per linear meter, with the same caveats in place.

Serve on the side
Part of its new spring collection Zara Home’s stainless steel side table is a beautiful thing that works as a place to rest a cup of tea or coffee.
It could also be used as a plinth for plants, sculpture, or ceramics.
It comes in three finishes: the mirror-polished stainless steel shown, a deep, moody grey, and a shiny black. Standing 46 cm high, with a diameter of 30 cm, it costs €159, excluding delivery.

Chrome in the spotlight
This low-set table lamp will add ambience to shelving and console tables.
Part of the new Very Collection, from Very Ireland, it will also work as a bedside light. It features a wide globe set into a chrome-finish frame and costs €64.99, excluding delivery.
The side table, also shown, costs €259 while the pair of candlesticks costs €24.99. The swivel chair, just seen, costs €454.

Art deco lines
With chrome-finished tubular ribbed details, this Made.com glass shelving unit has art deco lines and is 151.5 cm high, 90 cm wide, and just 36.5 cm deep.
It will work well in alcoves on either side of a chimney breast in a period property or to add detail to a bare wall. It’s a place to show off your collections, be it books, objects, or found items.
Add a lamp to the lower glass shelving to help illuminate objects above. It costs €768.50, excluding delivery via Next.ie.

A look to reflect on
Reframe the look of your bathroom with Chubby, a chrome mirror by HK Living. It comes in the size shown, 45 cm wide by 80 cm long, and is 7.5 cm deep.
This costs €495 and can be viewed at April and the Bear in Rathmines.
It also comes in a long version, which extends to 170cm, is slightly wider, 53 cm, and is the same depth. It costs €995.

Storied seating
If you like individual pieces that tell a story, this pair of aluminium frame armchairs will garner attention.
Made in 1968 by British designer William Plunkett, who is best known for his work on the QE2, a now-retired but once exceedingly glamorous ocean liner.
These seats are reputed to have belonged to the designer himself, who spent 12 years as a gunner in the army before moving into design.
Newly reupholstered in a cool blue boucle fabric, the pair costs €9,000 at Killian McNulty Gallery on Dublin’s Francis Street.
