This is O’Casey country, a part of Dublin 3 where the writer of In the Shadow of a Gunman, The Plough and the Stars, and The Silver Tassie lived, in the wider parish of St Barnabas, for 30 years from the age of six.
Inspired by a hawthorn tree that grew at the top of the street and heralded spring to O'Casey and the neighbourhood, he penned the story, The Hawthorn Tree.
