Award-winning garden designer Alan Rudden has offered up some simple steps you can take to make your house more appealing to potential buyers.

The good news is his recommendations are not going to break the bank, but are almost certainly likely to help you reach your asking price.

Alan says to simply and quickly improve curb appeal and give the best first impression of your home to potential purchasers, follow his six-point plan.

1 - Give your front door a lick of paint if there is peeling paint or wear and tear. Make sure your door number is affixed properly and visible for potential viewings.

2 - Wash your windows, clean gutters, and power wash the exterior of your home, any boundary walls and the driveway/ patio. This is a simple and cost-effective way to give a good impression.

3 - Cut the lawn, sweep up slippery and unsightly dead leaves, clean up your plant beds and trim your hedges to tidy up the area. Add seasonal bedding plants for colour.

4 - Add planted pots either side of your doorway to bring a splash of colour and interest to a dull entrance.

5 - Place wheelie bins out of sight, they are an eyesore, and often don’t smell fantastic! A bin screen or store can be used if they can’t be moved out of the driveway.

6 - Add a seasonal wreath to the door; it adds a welcoming and homely touch, and this is exactly what you want to achieve.
