Bespoke joinery by a friend delivers turnkey €515k A-rated family home

For Sale

The owners of this three-bed, A-rated terraced house had a family friend make all their custom millwork.

The result is a classic contemporary interior with real flair and room for a growing family.

Contemporary homes offer the creature comforts of an A BER-rating but can sometimes feel a little soulless. Every house in an estate of a certain age can end up looking the same with the same kitchen and bathrooms.

The custom joinery is a feature throughout the house

It’s all thanks to the bespoke joinery, panelling and architraves, executed by a family friend called Glen, the owner says.

This custom millwork is the interior equivalent of the difference between haute couture, when a garment is made to fit your measurements exactly, and a ready-to-wear number you buy off the shelf in a shop that may need alterations.

It’s evident in all the perfectly-formed panelling. The hall, living room and guest w.c have all been painted in Irish paint brand Colourtrend’s Palm House Fountain, a warm neutral that picks up these details beautifully.

Glen also made custom shelving in the living room to house the TV, electric fire and decorative items.

Pocket doors slide back to open the living room to the kitchen, a large open plan space that has been extended by just under 40 square metres to fit everything that the modern family needs to function.

Behind full-height marine-blue doors is a fridge/freezer and a double pantry that serves as an appliance garage and a utility cupboard.

Under the large island, where there is space to seat all five members of the family, there is an under-counter freezer, a wine fridge, dishwasher and bins. Everything is out of sight.

Would-be chefs will love the six-burner Rangemaster oven at the heart of the kitchen.
