From the 1960s to contemporary builds, here are 5 bungalow homes in Dublin, and counties Limerick, Wexford and Cork, ranging in price from €395,000 to €1.195 million.
In 1971, housing options for Ireland's ordinary citizens expanded with the publication of Jack Fitzsimons' book, Bungalow Bliss.
It democratised housebuilding, giving prospective self-builders plans for what could be done with the humble one-storey house.
It was a time when building regulations were looser.
The book and its home templates offered those who could buy a site a way to build their own home, with homes mushrooming in townlands and creating ribbon development outside towns and villages through the 1970s and 1980s.
The late architect and Home of the Year judge Hugh Wallace loved the fact that the house style offered ordinary people a way to build and own their own homes, something that was evident in the TV show that he presented, Bungalow Bliss, in which he visited bungalow-owning families to see how they and their architects had transformed these spaces.
His influence continues. Graham Murray, residential director at estate agents Sherry FitzGerald, says it's a house style that is currently trending.
It's a rare enough building stock type in the Dublin market, he says, but it has become hugely popular, not just with traders down but also with families, as they are often in well-established locations and have big gardens that you can extend into.
