Glow up your garden in time for summer

The clocks have sprung forward, so get your garden set for summer

It's really not quite time to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine yet. But we're close!

Over the next two months, those days are going to get longer and there will be at least an hour here or there where we can feel the sun on our cheeks.

That's why every year, I espouse the virtues of getting your outdoor space set up so you're ready at a moment's notice for that elusive sunshine.

You really don't need much, a basic spot to sit that's reasonably comfortable.

For the warmer months, there's nothing better than being able to eat outside with friends or family.

But for the early months, stick with what you already have or what you can easily obtain.

Look for French-inspired striped cushions (Dunelm)

You'll definitely want removable cushions you can store inside so you don't have to worry about a wet behind from the shower that's just passed.

But beyond that, you just need to set up a perch.

Gather a few more supplies; you should always have a throw blanket or two at the ready so you can extend your outdoor stay.

Bistro lights are actually more useful now than they are when the sun isn't setting until 10pm, so if you can manage to string those up early, you'll get a lot of use out of them in the early season.

GET THE BASICS RIGHT

For outdoor seating, you really just need pieces that can withstand the weather.

Waterproof cushions, cosy-yet washable throws, a place to put your cup of tea, and maybe an umbrella.
